Umayyad so-called desert castles are quite unique examples of the divers early Islamic period / culture in Syria, Jordan and Palestine.
One of the most interesting desert castles is the 'Palace of Hisham' at Khirbat al-Mafjar, in the outskirts of Jericho, Palestine.
Further examples include, among others, the functionally quite diverse structures Qasr al-Kheir al-Gharbi, Qasr al-Kheir al-Sharqi, Qusair 'Amra, Mshatta, Qasr Kharana, Qasr al-Hallabat, Qasr al-Azraq, among others.
