The Temple Mount, or Al-Aqsa Compound, is home to, among other buildings, the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock, the third holiest site in the Islamic world. Featured in every Israel travel guide, Israeli forces have been denied access to the Al-Aqsa Compound to many Palestinians for years.
