Further trips to Iran took place in 1994, 1997, 1998, 2002, 2016 and 2019.

For centuries, the country was known under its name Persia, until it was renamed in 1935 under Reza Shah Pahlavi (Reza Chan, 1878-1944) in Iran. His son Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi (1919-1980) ruled until the Islamic Revolution in 1979 under Ruhollah Musawi Khomeini (Khomeni, 1902-1989) took over power.
