Tigris Bridge of Jazirat b. Umar near Ayn Duvar / Ǧazīrat ibn ʿUmar near ʿAyn Dīwār جزيرة ابن عمر عين ديوار is one of the few surviving medieval bridges in the Middle East featuring an elaborate astronomical-astrological decorative program— one that, to this day, has been only partially deciphered. Due to its location in the border triangle where southeastern Turkey, northern Iraq, and northern Syria meet, it was difficult—and at times impossible—for researchers to visit the bridge, which lies within Syrian territory. Consequently, the color slides and black-and-white photographs taken in 1993 are rare; they are presented here alongside other earlier images (including items from the slide collection of Katharina Otto-Dorn) and examples of comparable structures such as the bridge near Hasankeyf.
